Hi, Judy,
First we'd like to say many thanks to you for being piano teacher of Bob. We have seen lot of improvements during this semester. After the very first lesson you gave, Bob's mommy told me how much she liked you and the way you taught. She said millions of times that she was so glad to have you teach Bob. Bob has been learning piano since his five, and his mommy has spent same time by sitting and watching his learning in the same room which gives her the best place to judge the progress Bob has made. As a father, I have never been qualified to be such a good chaperone but I am a very lucky listener.I can tell there is a lot better change in the way how he hits the keys. I have been feeling Bob is more like a serious piano player only since this semester. All of this good would not occur toBob without your great teaching and patience. Yes, Bob's mommy mentioned a lot that she was amazed by your endless enthusiasm and patience when you teach. We just couldn't say enough about how much we are so grateful.
Honestly, when we decided to let Bob start piano lesson, we didn't expect him to be a great piano player one day.I guess Bob would agree this very much too:-). Bob has been through a lot when we keep forcing him to practise at home. It was difficult for us to watch when he hit the keys with tons of tears in his eyes. One of the reasons for us to insist bob is that we hope he could learn lots of fun from playing piano and enjoy such a splendid life via music. While it might take long time for Bob to appreciate how his life is blessed, the other reason I guess Bob has already agreed on is that only practice makes perfect. Now, he is much calm and cooperative when he thinks of 20 minutes TV time after 10 mins of piano practice.
Speaking of the coming recital, We were actually very surprised and excited when he agreed to play in recital. He never successfully tried piano recital before. Magic things happened after you talked with Bob about recital. It would be his first milestone if he finally made it, which wouldn't be possible without you. We promised Bob no matter how he plays in the recital, he will get his rewards for his efforts. We only hope this will work:-).
Last thing is about the Merit Scholarship you mentioned today. We all thank you very much for sharing this information and your kindness for the recommendation. We talked about this with Bob and he kind of agreed although he didn't know the details yet. We decided to give a try and I attached two PDF file including one reference form for you to fill. My best hope is that if Bob could make it inpiano recital, he will survive the audition. I noticed that a list of appropriate scales are required and Bob also needs preparation for the audition. If you don't mind, we would like to compensate your extra time and effort if you think it is necessary. Just let us know.
Many thanks again.

http://www.mnps.org/Page67940.aspx

The Tennessean reported that Tennessee received a "windfall" for schools. Now where do they think the money originated? How about the taxpayers, or better yet, future taxpayers who will be paying for all "windfalls" from this evil administration。
To officially announce Tennessee's win in the Race to the Top competition, Governor Phil Bredesen joined several state and local officials at Eakin Elementary School, where he addressed the state and the lucky students who were able to attend.
Tennessee's Race to the Top Proposal
The State of Tennessee submitted a proposal in the U.S. Department of Education’s Race to the Top competition, seeking a total of $501.8 million in federal resources to spur education innovation across the Volunteer State.
Tennessee’s request exceeded recent estimates by about $17 million, mainly due to additional resources that are being sought for turnaround schools. Tennessee’s complete Race to the Top proposal, totaling 1,111 pages with supporting documents, can be found on the state Department of Education Web site at www.tn.gov/education.
Under federal guidelines, half of any Race to the Top funds received by Tennessee — which, as requested, would total $250.9 million — would be distributed directly to local school districts under the federal government’s existing Title I formula. The other half would be used to seed a “State Innovation Fund” underwriting a series of new investments over a four-year period. Major categories include: turnaround schools, great teachers and leaders, technology and data, oversight and implementation.
About the Federal Race to the Top Program
Created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), Race to the Top provides $4.35 billion in competitive grants designed to encourage and reward states that are implementing ambitious plans in four core education reform areas:
- Adopting standards and assessments that prepare students to succeed in college and the workplace and to compete in the global economy;
- Building data systems that measure student growth and success, and inform teachers and principals about how they can improve instruction;
- Recruiting, developing, rewarding, and retaining effective teachers and principals, especially where they are needed most; and
- Turning around the lowest-achieving schools.
In addition, the President and Secretary Duncan announced plans to seek an additional $1.35 billion in funding for Race to the Top in anticipation of an “overwhelming response” from states seeking awards this week, in the first round of the competition. Winning states in the first round are expected to be announced in April, to be followed by a second round of competition later in the year.

12:00 PM Nov 4th, 2009 from web
11:57 AM Nov 4th, 2009 from web
11:54 AM Nov 4th, 2009 from web
