have an outside faucet that is leaking just inside the basement wall. It is one of those freeze proof faucets but it's leaking because I forgot to unhook the hose before winter and the pipe has cracked. My question is when repairing this can I use compression type fittings to connect the pipes together or do I have to solder the pipes together?

answer:

You wouldn't necessarily have to solder. You will need to replace the entire unit. It is probably 10-12" long. Was it previously soldered?- Either way, you should be able avoid by using compression fittings. There are several scenarios that could be happening. If it was soldered on before, you could get a new freeze proof faucet with male pipe thread on the end. You could use a female pipe x compression union. Or the other way around with female on the faucet and male on the union. Possibly, the old one was screwed on to a male adaptor on the pipe. More info on the connections could help.

tubing cutter( mini version): 7

American Line 66-0372 5 Breakaway Blades (Wide)
